A friend told me about this blog when I first started school here in NP and after hanging around here for some time, I've decided to post. Here goes:

My name is Wan Yee, from AVT year 1. I'm in the same class as Chris and Kenneth - V21, I'm sure you guys know them cos they're like the figureheads of our class, probably the whole AVT year 1 too. =P I think some of you know Faezah too. I've heard of you guys too, Chris mentioned a lot about Ivan (hello Ivan!). Heh.

What I like about AVT is that it offers a lot of ways to branch out into different things. We learn a bit of everything from engineering to editing to music theory and we'll be taking photography next year too. How cool is that!? This semester we're taking music theory where we learn how to identify time signatures, most of which I already know but is fun nevertheless and learn how to use Logic Express - freaking awesome. And we got to see our very own recording studio too! All of us are DYING to use it, to ACTUALLY use it.

So there you are, AVT year 1, V21. I'll end with some pictures of our class, I dunno if the class would be ok if I post them here but I'm posting them anyway. =P

By the way guys, there's a show at The Arts House, Play Den. Once again, I happen to be the stage manager. There's no technical crew at all for this show. So we can make this an AVT Crew show again.

Tech Run or bunk in on 13 Oct from 6p.m. to 10p.m.

I am looking for 1 to 2 lighting persons to operate the lighting equipment and 1 sound person. Please note that there is a bunk in date on 13 Oct from 6p.m. and these volunteers have to come in from 1p.m. on 16 Oct.

I need someone who can record the show via videocamera and burn it for me. I need some hostess and stage managers too.

How are all you guys. The blog seem dead so I am just going to post something about my attachment and PALME Asia 2009. Our Company, The Show Co, has setup a booth at hall402 not sure which booth, but has the biggest thrust. We have been there for the past 2 days setting up the event. At the booth are some new lights from the company and a cheap Led Mesh that is also currently at the NDP. Hope you all can spare some time to go down and see this nice lights and also get to know more about our attachment and what we have done. Guess what folks, i must say, this is something new, haven't been made before. This is the new NEC WIDEST LCD monitor for PCs. Take a look.

I would say this is the SHIT!!!! might be getting one.. the display is 2 times my macbook pro, which is 2880 x 900 but it can go up to 4000 plus reso!!! WOA!!! This is the ultimate la.. so people, if you say you cannot see what is on the screen, this might be the solution to your ignorant eyes hahahah

Think of the games you will be playing, the movies u will be watching on the screen.. it will be a new experience!! Even that guy is playing CRYSIS on the new screen!! Imagine he can spot u from angles that is out of ur range! I think if we play CS, everyboddy also will camp la.. hahaa current price is about i dont know haha! but i know the contrast ratio is higher than the usual 10000:1. Enjoy..

Having trouble to maintain 2 email accounts? Using one of the email account more often meanwhile don't want to miss anything that receive by another account? Have no idea how to compensate with these email accounts?

Now, Michael's Top Tip is going to show you that how can you divert your email from one account to another account.

I will show the way to set it up step by step.

Step 1:
Log in to the account that you wish to divert the emails. Example, I want to divert the emails from my school account to my personal email account.

You need to set up a new contact first so later it can divert to your contact, which is the email address that you wish to divert.

Key in any information that you think is necessary, of course name and the email address are the must.

When you done just click save & close button.

Step 2:
Go to Tools tab....

Choose New Mail Rule

It will pop up a new Create Rule window.
Step 3:
Under Create conditions session, change the sender to ALL DOCUMENTS.

Then press the ADD button.

Step 4:
Under Create action session, change the 'move to folder' command to 'send copy to'.

It will add a new input bar and you need to click the button that just beside it.

It will pop up a new window that ask you to choose the contact that you want to send to.
Select the contact and press the 'ADD' button. Press OK after you done these.

Get back to the Create Rule window and press the add button to add in the action that you chosen just now.

So now you should see the exactly setting like this:
Just click the OK button and now you will get thing done.

You should be able to see the new rule that you set it just now.

Now you can divert the school emails to your personal account and also can reply to the sender. This is seriously brilliant. So you cannot find any excuses for forgotten to read your school email.

New Mac virus threatening internet pirates

Tens of thousands of users who’ve downloaded pirated versions of iWork ‘09 or Photoshop CS4 may have opened their Macs to remote attacks from malicious users. Mac security software maker Intego discovered last week what it calls “OSX.Trojan.iServices.A” in pirated copies of Apple’s iWork ‘09 making the rounds on BitTorrent file sharing networks. An additional package not found in retail copies of the iWork installer called “iWorkServices.pkg” is installed as a startup item with read/write/execute abilities with the pirated versions. According to Intego, the rogue software connects to a remote server to notify its creator that the trojan has been installed on different Macs, and he or she can “connect to them and perform various actions remotely”, including downloading additional components to the machine.

Intego considers the risk of infection to be serious, warning of “extremely serious consequences” if a user’s Mac is compromised by software. The security firm said 20,000 people had already downloaded the installer at the time of its alert. As of now, Intego counts 1,000 more since the initial warning. As part of its update, Intego also says it has discovered a new variant of the same Trojan horse called “OSX.Trojan.iServices.B”, which can be found in pirated versions of Adobe Photoshop CS4. This installer has already been downloaded by 5,000 people who are now at risk, the firm says. Once the administrator password is entered, a backdoor with root privileges is launched, copying the executable to /usr/bin/DivX and a startup item in /System/Library/StartupItems/DivX. It then makes repeated connections to two IP addresses, according to Intego. A malicious user can then connect to the affected Macs and perform various actions and downloads remotely. Intego predicts this Trojan horse may also be used to execute similar DDoS attacks.

1 Month Attachment At MediaCorp

Hi sexy babes and hot hunks !

Just one question,

WHY IS THE BLOG SO DEAD ?!

So as to raise the dead blog, and as requested by BenChan~, GabChan~ is gonna post her very 1st post for avt's blog with regards to the 1 month attachment. So here it goes.

So Fabian, Desmond, May and me were posted to the 'TV Outside Broadcast' division of Mediacorp. During the 1 month attachment, we were involved in a the new talk show hosted by Quan YiFeng called 'Women On Top', S-league and the Trade Show. Personally, I learnt the most out of the talk show. I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

SET UP FOR 'WOMEN ON TOP' TALK SHOW

The 1st Shoot At Marina Square Shopping Centre:

Wireless mics that were used for the show

Antennas were set up to receive the signal from the wireless mics. Note that antennas always come in a pair.

The antennas were connected to the Antenna Splitter (the top 2 decks in the picture are the Antenna Splitters) before going to the Microphone Receivers (the bottom 3 decks are the Microphone Receivers). From the Microphone Receivers, the signal goes to the Microphone Splitter (sorry forgot to take photo of it). For this talk show's case, the Microphone Splitter split the signal into 2 paths, one for the recording purpose, the other one for the Front Of House (FOH).

Let's talk about the pathway for recording first. So from the Microphone Splitter, the signal goes to a mixer. This mixer is also known as the Recording Mixer (meaning the mixer is used for recording la). So if the mixer's gain is low, the audio for the recording will also be low. Hence the guy controlling this mixer is very important. He cannot anyhow screw up the audio signal or not the recording side will screw him.

From the Recording Mixer, the signal then goes to a Compressor. For this talk show, the Compressor is already set and fixed, no change was done to it during the show. (The Compressor applies the principles of the attack, release, knee and ratio thingy, which we had/will learn in the module 'Music and Music Production'.)

The signal comes out of the Compressor and into the Distribution Amplifier (DA). As we know that audio signal tends to grow weaker after going through so many things, the DA helps boost its signal for better audibility. The signal than comes out of the DA and further split itself into another 2 more paths, one to the recording crew and the other to the producer. That is the end for the recording path.

As mentioned earlier, from the Microphone Splitter, the signal split into the recording and FOH path. Let's talk about the FOH path now. So from the Microphone Splitter, the signal goes into another mixer. This signal is also known as the FOH mixer. (If you guys still do not know what the FOH is for, please refer back to the year 1 module 'Introduction to Live Performing Arts'.)

The signal then goes to the Graphic Equalizer for enhancement. For this talk show's case, not much Eq was done (Talk shows do not need so much fanciful sound one). The signal then travel to the amplifier before going to the speakers that the audience gets to listen to. That is the end for the FOH path.

Now for the camera part.

See the red/orangy cable running from the camera? That is the Triax Cable. The cable is able to carry all three video signal, power supply and intercom/audio signal.

There are handles on the camera. The left handle controls the zoom and the right controls the focus. The headphones hanging on the right handle allows the cameraman to be able to hear the cues from the producer.

Next is the production part.

These are the In-ear Monitors for the floor manager and the host, so that the producer can communicate with the both of them.

These are the mics that the producer used to speak to the floor manager and host. The mics have a switch, so that the producer can switch it off when he/she wish to gossip about the floor manager or host. Haha. No la. It is so that the producer can switch it on only when necessary, ensuring that the floor manager and host are not disturbed all the time.

This is the weapon of the producer. The screens show what each camera are taking (total there were about 3 to 4 cameras used for this talk show). The second picture shows the Switcher. The producer use it to select which camera angle that he/she wants the home audience to see. The Switcher is also used to do simple editing and it can also add computer graphics into the show. However, I think no computer graphics was added during the recording of this talk show. They will only put in the computer graphics when they take the tapes back to MediaCorp for the final editing.

On the extreme right is the speaker used to hear the talk back from the cameraman (rectangular with round edges). The middle one is the speaker used to monitor the show (rectangle with sharp edges). The small black box on the right is the amplifier for the headphones. Both the speakers are connected to the headphone amplifier. Hence, the producer can choose to listen either directly from the speakers or the headphones (headphones usually used when the surrounding is too noisy).

On the right of this picture (the whole rack where you see a hand touching it), it is the Color Correction Unit. It is used to make sure that the color contrast of every camera is the same so that when different camera angles are chosen, the color contrast remains the same. The two racks beside it are the tape recorder and CD player.

Before the start of the show, the mics and camera must be check and assured that they will work properly during the show.

Fluorescent lights were chosen and used for this talk show. Anyway I learnt that fluorescent lighting is known as cold lighting while tungsten lighting is known as warm lighting.

These two are the nicest people of TVOB. The one on the left is Mr.Yam and the one on the right is Lester. I learnt the most from the both of them.

The talk show finally started.

The main purpose of this picture is just to show off. For those who don't know, the person in the middle is a MediaCorp artist named Xu Mei Zhen. She is a damn nice and friendly person la.

The 3rd Shoot At Suntec City Shopping Centre:

Pathetic as it looks, we production crew were like the only few audience for this shoot. And it seems like we became the clapping crew, cause we had to clap damn loud when the floor manager prompt us to, just to act as if there were a lot of audience like that (T.T).

S-LEAGUE

The set up at the skyfold (don't know how to spell) where the commentators will be situated. The set up mainly consist of the projection of the match for the commentators to see (via the small screen on the left of the 2nd picture), intercom system with the producer and the live broadcast of the comments of the commentators.

Mic that was used for capturing the surrounding ambience like the audience's jeers and clapping sound.

The presenter's corner set up. You know that before a match start (or during half time or after the match, not a soccer fan so not quite sure when), there will be this sports newscaster reporting about the other previous matches played? This is the corner where that takes place. Does not look as grant as it appear on TV right? Lol.

The commentators actually stand to comment. So poor thing.

May striking this post while the match was still on. We were sitting at the side of the field during the game, with our lives at risk of being hit by the ball.

MEDIACORP'S TRADE SHOW

The Trade Show is actually an event that MediaCorp organise every year. Mr.Yam says it is actually an event for the exchanging of cards between the big bosses. Basically what they do is promote the upcoming highlights of MediaCorp TV channels, hoping the clients, who are the people who require advertisements to be made, will spend more money to advertise with MediaCorp.

Todae i went to watch the Dark Knight. It was a super dupper nice show!!! If I were to give it a rating I might have gave 6/5. The extra 1 point is the splendid performance of the Joker aka Heath Leadger. I dun wish to give any spoiler but after the mid-way fight scene you should go for a 2min toilet break because the ending is kind of fast and exciting. But if you could stay for the whole show which is ard 2hours and 33minsm that would be veri good. They are a total of 2/3 bad guys. I so love the joker. LoL! A must-watch movie this year. [Why So Serious?]

Hi,

They is a convention at suntec city this coming tuesday to thursday. The website for this event is "Palme Asia". It is quite similiar or maybe more interesting then the last exhibition we went too at the Expo. They will be lots of overseas companys promoting their audio/visual stuff and other stuffs related to this like satelliate dish and stage management stuff. Our class V21 will be going down on wednesday during lesson hours to visit the exhibition. Hello there, here an article adapted from a fellow inspiring blog. I find it interesting so i just have the impluse to share it with you all. Sometimes, it takes the "child" in you to do the great extra-ordinary things u dream yar. So, let us too, learn from kids at times, especially, in their convictions in their goals on what they want to be when they grow up. (Many a times, money wasn't even their considerations)

Jus want let you guys know what we are doing so far. We are practically opening up video components and looking at TV resolutions and defects that TV has. Currently, we have dismantle a DLP projector, 3LCD projector & todae we dismantle a i think should be around 39-inch LCD TV. Our master piece should be in the technical office and the room 06-11. So if you see any thing around dun touch it cause the TV has sharp parts on the side. So you guys can see the inside although you might not understand it cause you haven covered the fundemental stuff. So you can ask us explain to you how it works if u wan to know. Best is to ask Mr loh how it works cause we still novice so not so good with it. Wonder hows the other class doing so far? Any cool modules? Post Yahz!!!

It is300-inch(ya you never heard wrongly) SHV screen with extremely high resolution of 7,680 x 4320 pixels is able to display 16times the visual quality of the 1920 x 1080pixels HDTV. Hi Guys,

Think most of us had a great time playing soccer at Fico Sports Hub. Althought not alot of people turn up for our class we still had a great time. We will try to ask the rest of my classmates to go down next time if we can. Thanks to all who help in the booking and stuff. I think all of us appreciate alot.

Hey3..Tomorrow is avt soccer day out at Fico sports hub..Lets thank haikal for coming up wif dis idea(although the he nvr does the work example ask norman to post and me to ask around). LOL!! Lazy boy.. anyways, i know alot of people have not been there before. so let me give you the details for tmr.

Where to meet:
If you're going to skool, you can meet me and the rest before 2,as we will be waiting for michael and andrew to finish their class. If you're nt going to skool, wait at boon lay interchange. please reach before 2.30 to avoid conflict. LOL!!

Things to bring:
Of course soccer stuff..shorts,shirt,socks.. Haiyo, obvious... There is shower fascility there,so bring towel and spare clothes. Bring money..each shud pay ard 4 or less..just stand by 4 bucks lah,ok.. And buy 1.5 litre plain water from the shop outside 1st..there no shop except pizza hut..so buy 1st before you go in..

oklah,tats all..all avt year 2, go ok..we'll have lots of fun..gals wanna go oso can..juz soak in the atmosphere..wad a gd way to relax after shitty papers like ATE and PCN..ok,cya!!

We was doing some linear video editing at here... CH12...
